Mike Teo, Group CEO of Konzen Group of Companies

Mike Teo was appointed as Group CEO of Konzen Group of Companies in September 2011.

He graduated with a Chemical and Process Engineering Degree from University of Canterbury, New Zealand and started his engineering career with a leading engineering consultancy firm. He was attached to the Environment Division of the firm and had experience with water supply schemes and environmental impact studies. He moved on to work for Chemitreat Pte Ltd (now part of Siemens Water), a leading water treatment company in Singapore as a project engineer for industrial and municipal water and wastewater projects and products.

In 1997, he joined Konzen (then part of the Ionics Enersave group of companies) as an Executive Director. He built up the East Malaysian business based in Kuching initially focusing on the high purity water market for major electronics plants at Sama Jaya Free Industrial Zone. The company expanded into the petrochemical industries in Bintulu and Labuan and established itself as a preferred vendor with full technical and after sales capabilities.

In 2000, he was appointed Strategy and Planning Director and was involved with the company’s expansion into China. During that time he spent some time in Tianjin where Ionics designed and built a large fully integrated feed water, ultra pure water and wastewater reuse system for a major US company. He played a major role in securing and setting up the operations and maintenance services contract for this project and was actively involved with other business development assignments both in Tianjin and Shanghai. Mike then took up a new assignment as Group Sales and Marketing Director and was a member of the board of directors.

In 2003-2004, the company went through a restructuring exercise and he continued playing a major role as a key member of the management team. New shareholders bought over the company, and adopted Konzen as its new name.

In April 2006, he was appointed as Managing Director, Konzen South Asia Division, reporting to the Group CEO and was responsible for business development, profitability and growth of this division.

Currently, aside from being Group CEO, he plays a major role in developing Konzen Clean Energy, which has successfully completed the first palm oil mill effluent treatment plant producing biogas, registered as a CDM project and continues to expand this capability regionally.
